Serverless rocks at Fender

Fender Play, a popular eLearning platform offering guitar and ukelele lessons, is benefitting from last year's move to serverless technology.

The solution leverages Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Cloudfront, and S3 cloud storage.

While the team is ever finetuning their workflows a year on, the nitty gritty of the switch is still a lesson in itself for anyone who is considering serverless architecture.

Fender’s Director or Software Engineering, Michael Garski, gave an interview about the migration, and covered the following:

  • The rationale of moving to serverless
  • What he’d do differently if he had to start the migration from scratch
  • Monitoring solutions
  • Who’s on the team, its size
  • Workflow pain points
  • Serverless’ advantages for Fender.
